The barn has been on the Dyck family farm for the last seventy-four years. It has seen generations of children rubbing the sleep from their eyes as they moved through the ritual morning of chores to return later in the day swinging from ropes in the hayloft and building hay bale tunnels. It has kept a watchful eye on all the young ones given to its care, the "eye-less" kittens in the hayloft, the wobble-legged calf below and the guileless toddler wandering in and out between the heavy bovine. In the winters it has cradled its menagerie through storms as a sort of prairie ark. But the barn has a new life now. In 1991, the Barn Playhouse opened as a community theatre, producing different shows each summer, celebrating rural life, farming and family. The Craft Barn also opened that year for the first time. Then in 1995 we opened our dining room to cater banquets. |
